Brushed metal
gets it name from the "brushing" of the surface to give a
uniform surface. This is actually a series of very fine
parallel scratches, which may be considered a multitude of
long but very shallow mirrors. By orienting the direction
of the brushing, compelling light changes can be seen to
occur as the viewer walks past.
Brass, stainless steel, and aluminum are most useful for
artwork. While brass and stainless steel have a
characteristic color, aluminum can be anodized or dyed in a
range of interesting colors.
